Osun Education Sector Recieves Boost as NGO donates 6,000 books to the state
Mr Haastrup who asserted that a child’s background or the wealth of the parent should not determine what the child would be expressed the hope that the books will be used for the purpose for which they are meant for.
The efforts of the Aregbesola administration at revamping the education sector in Osun has received a boost with the donation of about six thousand books by a Non Governmental Organisation, Jewels Of Africa Foundation to the state Ministry of Education.
The six thousand books which are in different subjects comprise of books in the Science and Art subjects drawn from subjects such Mathematics, English, Algebra and others.
Speaking while presenting the books to the Osun education commissiner at the conference room of the ministry, Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Deji Haastrup said the efforts was particularly born out of the efforts of the Aregbesola administration at taking education to the next level.
He said the efforts of the Aregbesola’s government at improving education in the state has attracted the eyes of the world, hence the need for the NGO to try and give back to the society by supporting the Governor’s effort.
Speaking shortly after receiving the books, Commissioner for education, Mr Kola Omotunde-Young stated that every assistance to support the effort of the present government at improving education in the state will be welcomed.
He added that the Ogbeni Aregbesola administration from inception has placed the improvement of education on the front burner because the government beleives that the future of the state is in the hands of the youths.
Mr Young stated further that the Osun government wants to produce a total and complete man through the education sector hence it’s huge investment in the sector.
While soliciting for more of such assistance from other NGO’s and well to do individuals in the society, the commissioner assured that the books will be put to good use for the development of the society.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Festus Olajide lauded the efforts of the NGO, while calling for other NGO’s to also give back to the society.
Highlights of the programme which was witnessed by all Directors in the ministry was the official presentation of the six thousand books to the commissioner for education.
